Videos
Video lessons draw on companyLEARN’s Video library. You upload a video once and can then use it in as many lessons as you like, including lessons in different courses. The video library is available to people with the Manage courses permission; you open it via Videos in the menu.
Supported formats

On upload, companyLEARN checks the file extension, the declared file type and the file’s content; other formats are rejected. By default, a file can be up to 2 GB in size.
companyLEARN stores videos unchanged and does not convert them. Learners therefore see exactly the file you upload, so it has to play in common browsers.
Uploading a video
Section titled “Uploading a video”You have two options:
- In the video library: Click Upload video at the top right and choose the file. A progress bar shows the upload; afterwards the video appears in the table.
- Directly in a lesson: In the dialog of a video lesson, click Choose a video… and then Upload a new video in the Choose a video dialog. After the upload, the new video is selected for the lesson.
If the upload fails, the message “The upload failed. Please try again.” appears.
The video library
Section titled “The video library”The Video library table shows all uploaded videos:

Using a video in a lesson
Section titled “Using a video in a lesson”In the dialog of a video lesson, Choose a video… opens the list of all videos with filename and size. Click a video to select it; the selected video is marked with a check mark. Then save the lesson. How to create lessons is described under Managing courses.
Playback
Section titled “Playback”Learners watch the video in their browser’s player with the usual controls; skipping forward and back is possible. When a video plays to the end, the lesson counts as done. In the chat, the video plays right in the conversation (see In the chat).
A video can only be played by people who are enrolled in a published course with that lesson and have unlocked the corresponding chapter. The playback addresses are only valid for a short time; companyLEARN renews them automatically during playback.
The video library itself has no preview. To see a video the way learners do, open the lesson in a published course you are enrolled in.
If a video cannot be loaded, the message “The video could not be loaded. Please try again later.” appears.
Deleting a video
Section titled “Deleting a video”Click the trash can in the video’s row and confirm Delete video?. The file is deleted permanently.
A video that is still used in lessons cannot be deleted. companyLEARN then reports, for example, “This video is used by 2 lessons. Remove it from those lessons first.” Choose a different video in those lessons or delete the lessons, then delete the video again.
